“Community Healing DaysSM” is an initiative developed by the Community Healing Network (CHN), a grassroots organization located in Hartford, CT. It has been celebrated by 1000s of Afrikan Americans in over 130 cities for approximately 10 years. The CHN was founded by Enola Aird. The late great Maya Angelou served as the Chair of its Advisory Board during her lifetime.

 

CHD is designed to put healing on the agenda of people of Afrikan ancestry. The three-day event focuses on overcoming the myth of black inferiority and lie of white superiority and promoting the truth about Afrikan people and our potential. It is a call to “Defy the lie and embrace the truth.” During the three-days, we wear sky blue ribbons to show our collective determination to “move beyond the pain of the blues to the sky blue of unlimited possibilities!”

 

CHD is celebrated nationally the third weekend of October with activities that include consciousness-raising, typically occurring on a Friday; health-related activities on Saturday; and inspirational activities on Sunday. This year, members of the Tallahassee Community Healing Coalition and the Association of Black Psychologists- North Florida will join together to celebrate the ninth annual Community Healing DaySM in Tallahassee on Oct 16 – 17, 2020.
